Position Overview

Empact Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Manager (Healthcare) to join its Food Solutions Division in Bloemfontein, Free State.

This pivotal role focuses on managing catering operations in line with Empact Group’s strategic direction, contractual obligations, and industry compliance standards. The successful candidate will ensure operational excellence in food production, client service delivery, and workforce management, particularly within healthcare environments.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Manage the daily operations of the assigned healthcare unit in line with company strategy and client contracts.

  • Oversee efficient and compliant food production processes to ensure seamless service delivery.

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, nutritious, and compliant meals tailored to client and patient needs.

  • Coordinate and execute events and special catering functions within the facility.

Menu and Food Production Oversight

  • Lead menu planning, recipe standardisation, and costing to maintain consistency and profitability.

  • Oversee kitchen operations to ensure food quality and safety compliance.

  • Foster innovation in menu design while aligning with healthcare dietary standards.

Financial and Administrative Control

  • Manage daily financial processes including budget tracking, stock control, and invoicing.

  • Monitor gross profit margins and implement cost-saving measures.

  • Ensure effective utilisation of electronic meal ordering systems and proper data management.

Compliance and Governance

  • Uphold strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) legislation.

  • Maintain accurate records for all compliance inspections, audits, and quality control checks.

  • Ensure full compliance with food safety (HACCP) and industry best practices.

People Management

  • Lead workforce planning, payroll administration, and performance management processes.

  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Train and mentor staff to enhance operational capability and career growth.

Client and Service Excellence

  • Build strong relationships with clients, ensuring exceptional service and satisfaction.

  • Implement initiatives to continuously improve quality and efficiency.

  • Monitor performance against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and brand standards.


Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Food & Beverage Services, Hospitality, or Culinary Arts (preferred).

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in hospital catering (essential).

  • Proven success managing operations in competitive and sensitive markets.

  • Project management experience within the hospitality or catering sector (advantageous).

  • Strong background in costing, budgeting, forecasting, and financial control.

  • Experience implementing change management programs and new unit mobilisations.

  • Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams.

  • Valid driver’s licence required.
