Position Overview

Totalgaz Southern Africa seeks a Project Engineer to join the Johannesburg Engineering Team at Biermann Avenue. The incumbent will be responsible for managing outsourced engineering and construction projects, ensuring safe implementation of technical solutions, and compliance with TotalEnergies Group standards and local legislation.

This role is pivotal in supporting Operations, Sales & Marketing, Legal, and HSEQ teams, while delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

Depot Engineering & Construction

  • Prepare and implement the investment programme for assigned areas.

  • Conduct project feasibility studies, prepare documentation, drawings, and recommendations for execution.

  • Guide draughtsmen and consultants in preparing construction drawings.

  • Participate in equipment procurement and contractor negotiations with the Procurement Project Team.

  • Plan, organize, control, and execute field construction activities within time and budget.

  • Incorporate local legislation, TotalEnergies standards, and best practices in all projects.

HSEQ Compliance

  • Support the implementation of HSE programmes to ensure full adherence to company, local, and government standards.

  • Minimize HSE risks and ensure compliance with all HSE policies, rules, guidelines, and legal requirements.

  • Promote a safe working environment and contribute to company HSE KPIs.

Governance & Reporting

  • Ensure effective risk management and internal controls, including asset management.

  • Monitor project scope variations and cost changes, reporting regularly to the Technical Manager.

  • Use Project Management tools for document management and project monitoring.

  • Ensure all assets from completed projects are recorded or removed from the asset register.

  • Provide technical support to Site Maintenance Engineers and Bulk Customer Sites Teams.


Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • BSc or BTech in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.

  • Minimum of 6 yearsโ€™ experience in the oil and gas industry, specifically in engineering and construction projects.

  • Strong knowledge of local legislation, OHS-Act, SANS standards, and API codes.

  • Proficiency in Project Management tools and technical documentation.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Project Management certification.

  • Experience in managing outsourced contractors and consultants.
