Position Overview

The Project Development Manager will oversee and coordinate all project teams involved in the transacting and closing phase (pre-NTP) of renewable energy projects. This includes responsibility for project finance, contract management, permitting, engineering, procurement, interconnection, HSE, insurance, and construction readiness.

This role ensures projects are executed on time, within budget, and according to TotalEnergies’ quality and HSE standards. The manager will also work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including lenders, partners, Eskom, and regulatory authorities, to optimize project performance and risk management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all project teams during the transacting/closing phase of EPC projects.

  • Manage and liaise with external advisors, including financial advisors, legal advisors, and engineering consultants.

  • Optimize financial models and achieve financial close efficiently.

  • Serve as the primary interface for project-level stakeholders, including off-takers, partners, lenders, and Eskom.

  • Implement and manage project control processes: cost control, contract management, and scheduling.

  • Proactively identify risks, establish mitigation strategies, and ensure a “No surprises” project execution approach.

  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and accurate project reporting.

  • Develop and monitor project KPIs and cost reports.

  • Support bid preparation and internal governance to achieve project FID.


Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications:

  • BEng/BSc in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline

  • Master’s degree in Project Management or PMP certification is a plus

Experience:

  • 7–10 years in development and/or execution of medium to large EPC projects

  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience, preferably in the energy sector

  • Experience with local utility (Eskom) and power purchase agreements

  • Strong expertise in contract, risk, and procurement management

  • Deep knowledge of project controls including cost control, scheduling, and contract management

  • Proficiency in planning software such as MS Projects

Key Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills

  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities

  • High adaptability in a dynamic environment

  • Customer-focused with strong business acumen

  • Ability to lead diverse international teams

  • Fluent in English; other languages an advantage

  • Valid driver’s license (B or EB) and flexibility to travel
