Purpose of the Role
The Production SHERQ Coordinator is responsible for the end-to-end management of SHERQ activities across our Pet Food facilities. Your mission is to ensure absolute compliance with daily, weekly, and annual plant activities, ranging from food safety controls and in-plant laboratory management to statutory legal compliance (fire, racking, and tanks). You will lead the implementation of the SHERQ-X program, manage GMP standards, and drive environmental improvement metrics to ensure we deliver safe, high-quality nutrition to our consumers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Food Safety & GMP Management

System Compliance: Drive and maintain compliance with FSSC 22000, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.

Hygiene & Pest Control: Oversee general hygiene and cleanliness of manufacturing facilities, including the management of cleaning schedules and pest control contractors.

In-Plant Controls: Ensure daily inspections are completed for hygiene, foreign matter, weight, scale calibration, and metal detector functionality.

Complaints & NCRs: Facilitate the investigation and timeous close-out of customer complaints, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
2. Statutory & Environmental Compliance

Legal Standards: Ensure the plant meets all statutory legal requirements concerning fire safety, racking integrity, and storage tank inspections.

Environmental Metrics: Drive waste reduction programs and monitor environmental improvement metrics to minimize the plant’s ecological footprint.

Safety Inspections: Follow up on and ensure the closure of SHE inspections and both internal and external audit findings.
3. Training & Talent Development

Induction: Conduct effective SHERQ inductions and specialized training for plant personnel.

Succession Planning: Recruit and retain talent within the SHERQ department, providing clear succession planning and professional development.

Contractor Management: Oversee department contractor management and ensure 100% PPE compliance across the site.
4. Documentation & Quality Control

Recordkeeping: Ensure all documentation is completed correctly and submitted daily to the Document Controller.

SOP Management: Review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manage change control processes.

Stock Isolation: Identify raw and packaging material issues, report them to Quality, and ensure stock is isolated and moved into the NCR system.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Education
-
Degree/Diploma: Minimum 3-year Diploma or Degree in Food Technology, Biotechnology, or an equivalent NQF-6 qualification.

Training: Internal audit training is highly advantageous.
Experience & Knowledge
-
SHERQ Experience: Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a production and SHERQ environment.

System Knowledge: Working knowledge of MS Office and integrated management systems (FSSC/ISO).

Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a background in intermediate clerical and operational customer service.
