The Principal Psychologist role is key to ensuring that psychological assessments, career guidance, and counselling services are delivered professionally across the province.
Position Overview
The Principal Psychologist will provide technical and supervisory oversight of employment counselling services. This includes managing psychological assessments, guiding career counsellors, and ensuring high standards of record-keeping and service delivery. The role requires strong expertise in counselling and industrial psychology, as well as leadership experience in a professional setting.
Key Responsibilities

Supervise employment counselling services to assist workers entering the labour market.

Provide technical supervision of psychological assessments of workseekers across the province.

Supervise self-help employment counselling in Labour Centres.

Establish and implement programmes for career counsellors in the province.

Ensure professional record-keeping of employment counselling activities.

Provide direct counselling services to referred clients.
Minimum Requirements
-
Master’s degree in Psychology.

Registration as a Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Three (3) years’ relevant experience as a registered psychologist (counselling or industrial psychology).

Knowledge of ILO Conventions, financial management, human resource management, and recruitment & selection processes.

Understanding of relevant government strategies and policies.
