Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is recruiting for the position of Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant – Valley Hyper – Nelspruit. This permanent opportunity is based in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, within the Dispensary Category and Pharmacy Business Unit.

The role focuses on supporting the provision of pharmaceutical care by assisting in meeting patients’ medicine-related needs and ensuring full compliance with legislative and regulatory standards.

Purpose of the Role

The Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant will support the responsible pharmacist in delivering pharmaceutical services while ensuring that medicine-related needs of patients are addressed responsibly and professionally.

The role includes assisting with dispensing, stock control, administrative processes, and patient support, always operating within the legal framework of the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

Minimum Requirements

Essential Requirements

Grade 12 / Matric.

Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification.

Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

Working experience on Unisolv.

Computer literacy in MS Office.

Sound numerical skills.

Strong command of English and a second language (read, write and speak).

Willing and able to work retail hours.

Advantageous Requirements

Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations.

Third additional language.

Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting.

Knowledge of drug and family planning, and complementary medicine.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Dispensing and Pharmaceutical Support

Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.

Assist with compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.

Assist with manufacturing of non-sterile medicines under supervision.

Assist with re-packaging of medicines.

Assist with distribution and control of stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.

Assist with ordering of medicines up to Schedule 6 as instructed by an authorised person.

Assist with reading and preparing prescriptions, selecting and labelling medicines under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Ensure all medications are checked for accuracy and signed off by a pharmacist.

Script Processing and Patient Support

Accurately interpret scripts within SAPC legal requirements.

Capture script details correctly and verify patient information on the system.

Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling and checking of medication.

Be aware of common dosages and important drug interactions.

Provide accurate instructions to patients regarding medicine usage.

Follow up with patients regarding script tracking and appointments when required.

Explain medical aid costs to patients clearly.

Promote health by providing appropriate information to individuals.

Medical Aid and Administrative Functions

Keep up to date with changes in medical aid procedures and requirements.

Process paperwork for accurate medical aid claim submissions.

Correct rejected scripts from medical aids.

Ensure authorisation of chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication.

Maintain customer profiles on the system and merge profiles locally.

Notify UCS for central profile merges where required.

Take note of messages on customer profiles and act appropriately.

Stock and Operational Management

Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the Dispensary Manager.

Receive dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem SOPs.

Merchandise stock according to FEFO principles.

Facilitate bi-annual stock takes.

Exercise stock, cash and asset control.

Adhere strictly to Dis-Chem policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
