Purpose of the Role
The POS Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of Point of Sale (POS) materials to retail outlets, clients, and Smollan operational sites across the Port Elizabeth area. You will play a key role in ensuring that promotional and in-store display materials reach their destinations on time and in perfect condition, directly supporting the field team’s ability to execute at the point of purchase.

Key Responsibilities – Smollan POS Driver
Achievement of Delivery Targets
- Deliver POS materials, promotional items, and related goods to allocated retail outlets and client sites on schedule.
- Plan and execute daily delivery routes efficiently to meet all delivery targets and deadlines.
- Ensure all deliveries are completed accurately, with correct quantities confirmed and documented.
- Prioritise urgent deliveries and adapt route plans when operational requirements change.
- Consistently meet or exceed daily, weekly, and monthly delivery performance targets.
Administration & Documentation
- Complete all delivery documentation accurately, including waybills, delivery notes, and proof of delivery (POD) records.
- Maintain up-to-date and organised records of all deliveries, collections, and vehicle-related documentation.
- Capture and submit daily delivery reports to the line manager accurately and on time.
- Ensure all vehicle-related administrative requirements (licence renewals, logbooks, fuel records) are maintained.
Vehicle Maintenance & Care
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete the vehicle checklist daily.
- Maintain the delivery vehicle in a clean, roadworthy, and professional condition at all times.
- Monitor vehicle performance, fluid levels, tyre condition, and general roadworthiness regularly.
- Report any vehicle faults, damage, or mechanical issues to the Manager immediately upon discovery.
- Never operate a vehicle that is deemed unsafe or unroadworthy — safety of self, cargo, and others is non-negotiable.
Stakeholder & Client Engagement
- Represent Smollan professionally in all interactions with retail store managers, clients, and stakeholders.
- Build positive working relationships with store staff and clients at each delivery point.
- Handle delivery queries and discrepancies calmly, professionally, and in a solution-oriented manner.
- Communicate delivery updates, delays, or issues to the relevant manager and affected clients proactively.
Customer & Client Satisfaction
- Ensure every delivery interaction upholds Smollan’s high standards of professionalism and client service.
- Verify that POS materials are delivered to the correct person, in the correct condition, and in the correct quantity.
- Obtain accurate proof of delivery at every stop and ensure client sign-off is completed correctly.
- Follow up on any unresolved delivery issues and escalate where necessary.
Fault Reporting
- Report all vehicle faults, road incidents, near-misses, and mechanical concerns to the Manager without delay.
- Document all reported faults clearly and accurately for record-keeping and maintenance scheduling.
- Comply with all company procedures for accident reporting, insurance claims, and incident management.
Minimum Requirements – Smollan POS Driver
Educational Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) / NQF Level 4 — required
Work Experience
- 1 to 2 years of driving experience, preferably within an FMCG, logistics, or delivery environment
- Experience with POS material handling or promotional goods delivery is advantageous
Licence Requirements
- Valid South African Driver’s Licence — essential
- Clean or near-clean driving record is strongly preferred
