Frequently Asked Questions – Pharmacy Manager Jobs South Africa

What is the Responsible Pharmacist (RP) registration requirement? Under the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974 and SAPC regulations, every pharmacy must have a Responsible Pharmacist (RP) — a SAPC-registered pharmacist who accepts personal responsibility for the professional, legal, and operational compliance of the pharmacy. As Pharmacy Manager at Clicks Moruleng, the successful candidate must hold SAPC registration as an RP — confirming their professional accountability for all dispensing, patient counselling, stock management, and regulatory compliance activities at the pharmacy. RP registration requires a minimum period of post-community service practice and is a prerequisite for managing any South African pharmacy.

What is Unisolve and why is retail pharmacy experience with it valuable? Unisolve (developed by Unisolve Technology) is South Africa’s most widely used pharmacy management and dispensing software system — used by the majority of South African retail and independent pharmacies for prescription management, patient records, inventory control, and medical aid claims processing. Retail pharmacy experience with Unisolve is specifically listed as desirable because it significantly reduces system onboarding time and enables the Pharmacy Manager to contribute immediately to dispensary efficiency and claims management.

What is Clicks’ club card participation target for pharmacies? Clicks’ ClubCard is South Africa’s most successful retail loyalty programme — with millions of active members. Pharmacy Managers are specifically accountable for driving ClubCard participation at the pharmacy counter — ensuring that every transaction is linked to a ClubCard where the patient holds one, and actively encouraging new ClubCard sign-ups. ClubCard data is foundational to Clicks’ personalised health and wellness communication strategy and is a key pharmacy performance metric linked to the Pharmacy Manager’s targets.

What does “generic substitution” involve and why is it significant? Generic substitution is the pharmacist’s professional obligation under the Medicines and Related Substances Act to offer patients a therapeutically equivalent, SAHPRA-approved generic medicine as a more affordable alternative to the originator brand — unless the prescribing doctor has indicated “no substitution”. At Clicks, generic substitution is a key dispensary performance driver — reducing patient medicine costs, improving healthcare accessibility, and supporting Clicks’ healthcare affordability positioning. The Pharmacy Manager must ensure their team applies generic substitution consistently and correctly.
