Permanent Pharmacist Opportunity in Richards Bay
Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is recruiting a Pharmacist – Richards Bay for its Pharmacy Business Unit within the Dispensary Category. This permanent opportunity is based in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal and forms part of the retail industry.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of pharmaceutical care by taking full responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs and being accountable for ensuring those needs are met professionally and in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
This role is suited to a qualified and registered Pharmacist with retail pharmacy experience who is passionate about patient care, compliance, and service excellence.
Purpose of the Role
The Pharmacist will provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care by evaluating, dispensing, advising, supervising, and ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
The position requires accountability for the safety, effectiveness, and correct dispensing of medication while maintaining accurate records and delivering excellent customer service.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric.
BPharm or equivalent qualification.
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in Pharmaceutical practice.
2–3 years retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern).
Computer literate – MS Office.
Advantageous Requirements
Relevant retail/FMCG experience.
Third additional language.
SAP experience.
E-scripting experience.
Registered tutor.
Unisolv experience.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Care and Patient Responsibility
Evaluate a patient’s medicine-related needs by determining indication, safety, and effectiveness of therapy.
Dispense medicine or scheduled substances on valid prescriptions issued by authorised prescribers.
Sign off and check all prescriptions prepared by an assistant or intern, accepting accountability for correctness as per GPP requirements.
Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy where appropriate.
Furnish information and advice regarding the use of medicine.
Determine patient compliance and conduct follow-ups to ensure medicine-related needs are met.
Evaluate disease conditions and refer patients to in-store health facilities where necessary.
Promote public health initiatives.
Dispensing and Compliance
Accurately interpret scripts and operate within legal requirements set by the South African Pharmacy Council.
Capture script details accurately and verify patient information on the system.
Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling and checking of medication.
Be knowledgeable about common dosages and significant drug interactions.
Provide accurate usage instructions to patients.
Ensure authorisation of chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication.
Process paperwork for accurate medical aid claims submission.
Correct rejected medical aid scripts.
Keep abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements.
Maintain and merge customer profiles as required, notifying Vexall for central merges.
Stock and Administrative Management
Assist the Dispensary Manager with administrative functions.
Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors.
Facilitate bi-annual stock takes.
Exercise stock, cash and asset control.
Ensure compliance with stock control processes and legislative register requirements.
Maintain housekeeping standards in line with Dis-Chem policies.
Adhere strictly to Dis-Chem policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and Health and Safety regulations.
Maintain professional appearance in accordance with company uniform policy.
