About the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU)

The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) is part of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and focuses on seizing and managing criminal assets in accordance with South African law. The AFU promotes accountability, legal compliance, and operational efficiency across all its divisions, ensuring effective support to senior management.


Position Overview

The AFU is seeking a highly competent Personal Assistant to provide professional support to senior management across Pretoria, Mthatha, and Polokwane offices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate discretion, organizational excellence, and strong administrative capabilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and screen telephone calls; refer to relevant role players as required.
  • Record appointments, meetings, and events in managers’ diaries.
  • Draft routine correspondence, reports, and other documents.
  • Provide high-level secretarial and administrative support to the Regional Head.
  • Operate office equipment such as fax machines, photocopiers, and scanners.
  • Make travel and logistical arrangements, including international travel bookings.
  • Take and prepare minutes for meetings in advance.
  • Develop and maintain an accessible filing system.
  • Handle procurement of standard office items (stationery, refreshments).
  • Liaise with stakeholders regarding administrative and operational matters.
  • Schedule meetings and events, providing general administrative support to management and staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification: Grade 12 and Secretarial Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years supporting senior management.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • General computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Good telephone etiquette and planning/organizing skills
    • High reliability, professionalism, and discretion
    • Ability to handle confidential matters and conduct legal research
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures in the public sector
    • Good grooming and presentation
