The Perpetual Inventory Controller (PIC) is the primary guardian of the store’s most valuable asset: its inventory. Your mission is to perform daily physical cycle stock counts and verify them against the system’s recorded stock on hand. You are responsible for the entire reconciliation process—investigating why variances occur (whether positive or negative), identifying damaged stock, and ensuring SKU accuracy. This role requires extreme attention to detail and the courage to report irregularities to management to prevent shrinkage and financial loss.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

-
Cycle Counting: Execute daily stock counts according to the official PIC Count Cycle.

Variance Investigation: Investigate every discrepancy found. You must rectify negative stock quantities daily after obtaining formal approval from the Store Manager.
-
Special Audits: Conduct “Mini Stock-takes” as instructed and lead the preparations for full “Wall-to-Wall” annual stock-takes.
-
Condition Reporting: Identify and report damaged goods, poor-quality stock, and incorrect SKU labeling.
2. PIC Adjustments & Administration
-
Actioning Adjustments: Ensure all inventory adjustments are processed on the system, verified for accuracy, and signed off by Management before the end of the trading day.
-
Validation: Validate the “End of Day Report” against the previous day’s adjustment sheets to ensure no data was lost.
-
Meticulous Filing: Ensure all PIC documentation is completed, signed, approved, and filed daily for audit readiness.
3. Compliance & Reporting (The Cashbuild Way)
-
Irregularity Reporting: Report all variances and irregularities to the Store Manager or Divisional Manager (DM). If the Store Manager fails to take action on identified issues, you are required to escalate the report to the DM.
-
Merchandising Standards: Report on poor merchandising on racking or bulk areas that may be hiding stock or creating safety risks.
-
Ready for Business: Adhere to “Ready for Business” standards, ensuring the store is prepared for customers at all times.
4. Customer Service & Safety (OHSA)
-
Client Interaction: Adhere to the Cashbuild dress code, display your name badge clearly, and assist with customer complaints immediately.
