The role is responsible for overseeing packaging operations, ensuring continuous availability of packaging materials, maintaining quality and compliance standards, and leading teams to ensure efficient, uninterrupted production.
About the Role
The Packaging Manager is accountable for the effective management of packaging operations within the milling environment. The role focuses on planning and scheduling packaging activities, managing suppliers and material stock, ensuring compliance with quality and OHS standards, and driving operational efficiency across the department.
This position plays a critical role in supporting production continuity by aligning packaging output with sales and production schedules, reducing waste, improving systems, and ensuring final products meet required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Packaging Material and Supplier Management
The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing quality packaging materials at competitive prices, ensuring continuous supply to prevent production delays, managing daily procurement activities, monitoring stock levels, and coordinating packaging logistics to support production and distribution requirements.
Planning and Scheduling
The role includes planning and scheduling daily packaging processes and machine operations, aligning packaging output with production and sales plans, and ensuring all packaging activities run efficiently and meet required timelines.
Quality, Compliance, and Safety
The Packaging Manager will ensure ongoing compliance with OHS standards, quality control policies, and relevant legislation. The role requires maintaining internal mill quality standards and ensuring packaging integrity and final product quality at all times.
People Management and Performance
The position involves supporting and coordinating daily HR-related activities, setting clear performance goals, holding team members accountable for results, and creating momentum to ensure consistent delivery and productivity within the department.
Continuous Improvement
The role focuses on driving “brilliant basics” and continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve systems, reduce waste, increase efficiency, and remove operational obstacles to keep production running smoothly.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for this role must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Clear criminal record
- Knowledge of quality controls and mill processes
Experience and Professional Background
- 3–5 years’ experience within a milling or agri-processing environment
- Proven experience managing packaging operations
- Experience with production planning, materials management, and compliance
- Exposure to people management and operational leadership
