About the Role
The Nightshift Controller is a pivotal role responsible for the efficient coordination and supervision of night-time logistics operations. The incumbent ensures that all delivery services run smoothly by managing driver attendance, vehicle route planning, fleet readiness, and operational compliance. This role involves oversight of administrative reporting, customer service, and adherence to safety and operational protocols.
The ideal candidate will possess strong supervisory skills, excellent operational knowledge of fleet and nightshift logistics, and the ability to maintain high service levels under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management

Supervise drivers’ attendance, absenteeism, and ensure optimal staffing levels during night operations.

Oversee the loading and preloading of vehicles and ensure secure and compliant delivery of goods.

Coordinate all driver-related requirements with the Labour Broker and Regional Manager.

Capture driver hours accurately for weekly wage reporting.
-
Manage fuel processes including refuelling, consumption tracking, EDC/Nedfleet card reconciliation, and reporting.

Ensure the fleet meets standards outlined in the SEC Manual, including vehicle readiness and safety compliance.

Plan and control daily vehicle routes, dispatching, and customer documentation handover.

Manage procedures for accident claims, product claims, and vehicle breakdowns.

Debrief drivers’ trip sheets and reconcile with vehicle tracking reports.

Supervise pre- and post-trip inspections, logbooks, workshop bookings, and Certificate of Fitness (COF) checks.

Monitor vehicle tracking systems and arrange repairs for faulty units.

Maintain housekeeping standards for a clean, safe, and organized site environment.

Conduct monthly panic button tests and tyre surveys.

Confirm all loads are secure and comply with safety regulations prior to dispatch.

Safely secure all vehicle keys at the end of each night shift.
2. Administrative Duties

Compile and submit comprehensive operational reports including:

Vehicles in Workshop Report

Fleet Checklist

Weekly Site Report

Fuel Consumption Report

Vehicle Tracking Reports

Weekly Cluster Report

Daily Stats Report

Fleet Control Report

Management Report (STOs, average loading times, and out-of-area trips)

Supervise completion, handover, and sign-off of all customer-related documentation.
3. Customer Service & Relationship Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure service levels are consistently met.

Monitor and report on customer KPIs and service-level agreements (SLAs).

Provide operational feedback and proactively communicate any constraints or challenges affecting service delivery.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric)
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Knowledge of Freightware or similar fleet management software
