Position Overview

The Office of the Chief Justice is seeking a dedicated and responsible Messenger to join the Gauteng Division of The High Court: Johannesburg. The ideal candidate will ensure timely delivery and collection of mail, files, and other important documents, playing a vital role in maintaining seamless office operations.

Salary: R163 680 – R192 810 per annum (Level 03)
Contract Type: Permanent
Closing Date: 04 November 2025

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 or ABET (NQF Level 2) Certificate

  • A valid driver’s license (mandatory)

  • Minimum of one (1) year driving experience in a corporate environment will be an added advantage

Skills and Competencies

  • Sound organizational and time management skills

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Basic computer literacy (MS Office)

  • Problem-solving and analytical ability

  • Customer service orientation and attention to detail

  • Knowledge of procedures for motor vehicle operation and maintenance

  • Ability to work under pressure, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines

  • Strong sense of accountability, teamwork, and reliability

Key Responsibilities

  • Messenger Functions:

    • Sort and arrange correspondences within the registry

    • Maintain and control the correspondence register

    • Handle and record all incoming and outgoing mail, parcels, and documents

  • Mail and File Distribution:

    • Collect, distribute, and circulate mail, files, and documents

    • Ensure delivery recipients sign the delivery book/register

    • Maintain accurate and secure control over document movement

  • General Office Support:

    • Make copies, fax, and shred documents as required

    • Handle ad-hoc administrative tasks and collect office consumables

    • Maintain up-to-date trip sheets and ensure proper vehicle usage records

  • Vehicle Monitoring:

    • Ensure the official vehicle is roadworthy and properly maintained

    • Report any incidents or accidents promptly

    • Issue trip authorities and book vehicles for regular servicing
