About Dis-Chem Sitari Fields
Sitari Fields is a modern mixed-use development in Somerset West — one of the Western Cape’s fastest-growing residential and retail nodes, situated on the outskirts of Somerset West between the N2 and the Helderberg basin. The Dis-Chem Sitari Fields store serves a growing, health-conscious Somerset West and Strand community — with the Merchandiser ensuring that every product on every shelf reflects Dis-Chem’s standard of excellence that customers in this premium residential environment expect.
Purpose of the Role
The Merchandiser is responsible for executing and maintaining Dis-Chem’s basic merchandising standards at the Sitari Fields store — ensuring full shelf availability, correct product placement, accurate pricing and labelling, FIFO stock rotation, efficient stock receiving and storeroom management, and excellent customer service throughout.
Key Responsibilities – Merchandiser
Shelf Management & Restocking
- Restock merchandise as needed — ensuring maximum sales through consistent full-shelf availability across all assigned product categories.
- Ensure delivered stock and storeroom pulls are stored and packed in the correct shelf space timeously — maintaining planogram compliance and correct product placement at all times.
- Ensure the full range of products is on the shelves at all times — identifying and addressing gaps, out-of-stocks, and low-stock situations proactively.
- Ensure all merchandising displays are built, faced up, stocked, and maintained — keeping all product ranges visible, accessible, and professionally presented.
- Maintain daily physical upkeep of store and merchandise displays, and be responsible for designated stock in both the storeroom and on the shop floor.
Stock Rotation & Expiry Management
- Facilitate regular stock rotation on a FIFO (First In, First Out) basis — ensuring oldest stock is always sold first and sell-by dates are actively monitored.
- Ensure stock on shelves has not reached its sell-by date — removing and reporting all expired or near-expiry stock immediately.
- Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged stock, and expired stock to management in a timely manner.
- Identify and report damaged and expired stock immediately — preventing customer exposure to compromised products.
Pricing, Labelling & Compliance
- Ensure front shop shelves and products are neatly presented and visible at all times — with correct labels and pricing on every item.
- Report all price discrepancies to management as they appear.
- Ensure items without barcodes are clearly marked — maintaining scanning and pricing accuracy at the point of sale.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s operating standards, store layout, and planograms — maintaining full planogram compliance at all times.
Receiving & Storeroom Management
- Assist with loading and off-loading of stock — supporting incoming deliveries efficiently and safely.
- Ensure boxes are flattened after unpacking stock and taken to the designated area — maintaining storeroom and receiving area cleanliness.
- Assist with counting of stock files and general stocktaking — contributing to inventory accuracy across the Sitari Fields store.
- Assist with back shopping as required.
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance and advice to all customers — building professional relationships with the Sitari Fields community.
- Ensure all out-of-stock queries from customers are followed up with the customer service out-of-stock list.
- Ensure all customer stock queries are dealt with and resolved.
- Keep abreast of current and new products — maintaining product knowledge sufficient to assist customers with enquiries across assigned categories.
Training, Compliance & Safety
- Assist in training of new staff — sharing merchandising standards, planogram compliance, and stock rotation procedures.
- Adhere to all Dis-Chem policies, procedures, SOPs, and health and safety rules at all times.

Frequently Asked Questions – Merchandiser Jobs Somerset West
What is a ZMORE report and how does a Merchandiser use it? ZMORE is a SAP-based retail report used by Dis-Chem to track stock movement, ordering requirements, and inventory levels at product and category level. While analysing ZMORE reports is listed as an advantageous skill rather than essential, Merchandisers who can read and act on ZMORE data — identifying fast-moving lines that need replenishment, flagging slow-moving stock, and supporting ordering decisions — provide significantly more value than those limited to manual shelf replenishment. Candidates with any SAP retail reporting experience should highlight this clearly in their application.
What is FIFO stock rotation and why does it matter? FIFO (First In, First Out) is the standard retail stock rotation principle — ensuring that products received earliest are always moved to the front of the shelf and sold first, while newer stock goes to the back. In a pharmacy retail environment with products carrying sell-by dates — vitamins, supplements, medicines, food products — FIFO compliance is both a quality management requirement and a legal obligation. Failure to rotate stock correctly leads to expired products reaching customers, stock write-offs, and potential consumer harm. The Merchandiser’s daily FIFO discipline is one of the most commercially and legally significant functions in the store.
What is a planogram and what does planogram compliance mean? A planogram is a visual diagram or layout map specifying exactly where each product should be placed on a shelf — including its position (bay, shelf level, facing count, and adjacency to other products). Dis-Chem’s planograms are set by Head Office and reflect category management strategy, brand agreements, and consumer behaviour research. Planogram compliance means every product is in its prescribed location, with the correct number of facings, at all times. Deviations from the planogram — even well-intentioned ones — can affect category sales performance, brand compliance, and store audit results.
Does Dis-Chem have other posts near Sitari Fields in this batch? The Online Administrator (Somerset Mall) is the closest geographically — Somerset Mall is approximately 3km from Sitari Fields in Somerset West. Both close on 31 March 2026. Somerset West and Strand-based candidates with retail experience and computer literacy may apply for both simultaneously.
