The role is responsible for sourcing stock from markets and retailers, managing inventory levels, supporting warehouse operations, and ensuring timely order fulfilment to meet customer and operational requirements. This position plays a critical role in maintaining product availability, controlling stock flow, and supporting the overall efficiency of the supply chain.

About the Role

The Market Buyer is accountable for sourcing stock directly from various markets and retail outlets to support daily operational requirements. The role focuses on ensuring consistent stock availability, managing inventory levels, and coordinating with warehouse and dispatch teams to ensure accurate and timely order fulfilment.

This position requires a proactive and organised professional who understands the importance of stock rotation, freshness, and responsiveness to customer demand. The Market Buyer works closely with internal teams to manage special customer requests, oversee fridge inventory, and ensure stock shortages are identified and addressed promptly.

Working hours include early morning market runs, making this role ideal for individuals who are adaptable, reliable, and comfortable with non-standard working hours in a supply chain environment.

Key Responsibilities

Market Buying and Stock Sourcing

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting market runs from Monday to Saturday, starting at 2:30 a.m., to source stock from designated markets. This includes identifying quality products, negotiating purchases where applicable, and ensuring that sourced stock meets company standards.

In addition to market buying, the role involves procuring stock from pickers and other consumer goods retailers to supplement market purchases and ensure sufficient stock availability across all product categories.

Inventory Management and Stock Control

The Market Buyer will oversee stock shortages, manage special customer requests, and ensure that inventory levels align with operational needs. This includes monitoring fridge inventory, enforcing proper stock rotation, and ensuring that perishable goods are managed according to best practices.

Effective inventory management is critical to reducing waste, maintaining product quality, and ensuring that customer orders can be fulfilled accurately and on time.

Warehouse Operations Support

The role includes supporting warehouse operations by assisting the dispatch team with order preparation, receiving stock sheets from the stock controller, and ensuring that orders are placed correctly with suppliers.

The Market Buyer plays an important role in ensuring accurate communication between procurement, warehouse, and dispatch teams to maintain smooth daily operations.

Order Fulfilment and Logistics Coordination

The Market Buyer is responsible for placing orders for Johannesburg suppliers and coordinating flight deliveries where required. This includes ensuring that orders are placed timeously, quantities are accurate, and delivery timelines are met.

The role requires close coordination with logistics providers and internal teams to ensure that stock arrives as scheduled and supports uninterrupted order fulfilment.

Minimum Requirements
