Sasol is recruiting a Maintenance Operator Gr 2 Instrument to join the OPP ROAS Pipelines & Operational Support division based in Germiston. This operations-focused role is ideal for candidates with instrumentation exposure who are looking to build their careers in industrial maintenance and pipeline support environments.

This position supports the maintenance of instrumentation and control systems, ensuring accurate field data collection and optimal system productivity. The successful candidate will assist artisans, conduct inspections, and operate within strict safety and operational standards to ensure reliable pipeline and customer station performance.

Purpose of the Role

The Maintenance Operator Gr 2 Instrument is responsible for supporting instrumentation and control system maintenance activities. The role includes operating control devices and systems while accurately and efficiently collecting field data.

The position forms part of Sasol’s pipeline and operational support structure and contributes directly to productivity, safety compliance, and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes conducting pipeline and customer station inspections. This includes performing gas testing and reporting any deficiencies identified during inspections.

The Maintenance Operator acts as a vehicle custodian and must perform pre-travel inspections, ensure vehicle care, and maintain operational readiness at all times.

Driving responsibilities include operating 4×4 vehicles, light delivery vehicles (LDVs), and trucks. A valid Code C1 (old Code 10) driver’s license is required.

The operator will assist, support, and accompany artisans to ensure safe execution of tasks in the field. This includes preparing and arranging tools required for various assignments as instructed.

Housekeeping must always be maintained to ensure safe and compliant working environments.

The role requires ensuring that tools are correctly packed and stored in safe, well-controlled areas after use.

Safe and correct use of hand tools and workshop equipment is mandatory.

The operator will assist with the installation and removal of machine components when required.

Identification and verification of correct oils or lubricants for servicing equipment is part of the daily operational duties.

The role includes landowner liaison responsibilities, requiring good communication and relationship management skills.

Strong customer relations are required when interacting with clients, landowners, and operational stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 with Mathematics, English, and Science
or
N3 with Mathematics and Engineering Science

NQF Level 2 Occupational Qualification

Valid Driver’s License – Code C1 (Old Code 10)

1 to 2 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, control systems, or related field maintenance environments
