Position Overview
The Legal Advisor will provide comprehensive legal support to TotalEnergies Renewables Southern Africa business units, focusing on all phases of South African renewable energy projects, including development, investment, construction, and operation.
This position will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and external legal advisors to ensure contracts, regulatory compliance, and legal risk management align with Group policies and local legislation.
The Legal Advisor will play a key role in supporting project execution, M&A, Project Finance, and operational legal matters, contributing to TERSAβs success in wind, solar, and other renewable energy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts including: MOUs, partnership agreements, EPC and O&M contracts, shareholders agreements, land agreements, asset acquisitions and sales, and project-related documentation.

Prepare legal documentation for tender responses and oversee legal aspects of awarded renewable projects, including joint ventures and contract implementation.

Conduct legal studies, provide advice on new regulations, and ensure proper disclosure of legal information to business teams.

Coordinate and supervise external law firms, adhering to Group policies for legal representation.

Manage litigation files and advise on strategies to maximize favorable outcomes.

Prepare legal memoranda for internal corporate approval processes and contribute to legal reporting for TotalEnergies Renewables.

Develop training materials and guidelines for operational teams on legal matters.

Contribute to standardization of contractual documents and implementation of Group policies.

Liaise with GRP teams and TotalEnergies SE teams to ensure compliance and effective corporate housekeeping.
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications:

LLB or BCom Law
-
5β6 yearsβ experience in private practice plus 4+ years of legal support in project development, M&A, project finance, or operations within the renewables or industrial sector
