Position Overview

The Johannesburg head office is seeking a Learning Development Senior Manager to lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of learning and development strategies across the organisation. This role is open to EE – African applicants in line with company employment equity requirements.

The successful candidate will drive strategic L&D initiatives, develop performance-focused training programs, manage budgets, implement competency frameworks, and champion a culture of continuous learning across the business. This is a senior leadership role that directly impacts organisational capability, talent development, and operational performance in the car rental and fleet sector.


Key Responsibilities

Strategy Execution

  • Develop and implement company-wide L&D strategies including soft skills, technical, and legal training.

  • Create targeted learning interventions to enhance individual, team, and organisational performance.

  • Optimise Learning Management Systems (LMS) for efficiency and accessibility.

  • Secure executive sponsorship for L&D priorities and drive organisational buy-in.

  • Develop and track performance metrics to measure training effectiveness.

  • Benchmark industry best practices and build a Skills Matrix per role.

  • Implement Competency Frameworks and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Maximise SETA funding and manage statutory reporting requirements.

  • Introduce digital learning innovations to improve engagement and efficiency.

Financial Management

  • Develop, monitor, and manage the L&D budget.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and impact.

  • Implement tools and reports to track group-wide L&D expenditure.

Reporting & Administration

  • Submit consolidated monthly L&D reports across the organisation.

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders including executives, business unit leaders, and human capital teams.

  • Consult with subject matter experts for content and module development.

  • Communicate L&D needs clearly to executives and senior management.

People Management

  • Lead and mentor a diverse central learning team, setting performance standards and providing coaching.

  • Recruit, develop, and deploy talent effectively.

  • Enforce compliance with business policies and maintain discipline within the team.


Minimum Requirements

  • Honours Degree in Training & Development or Human Resources Management (NQF 8); Master’s Degree advantageous.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in learning and development leadership roles.

  • Deep knowledge of adult learning principles, SAQA/NQF frameworks, SETAs, and human capital value chains.

  • Proven track record in project management, strategy execution, and L&D program delivery.

  • Automotive or fleet industry experience is advantageous.

  • Valid driver’s license required.
