About the Role
The Inventory Controller is a key role responsible for ensuring accurate inventory management and control within a logistics or warehouse environment. The incumbent will implement inventory procedures, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with both operational standards and customer requirements. This role is critical in maintaining stock accuracy, minimizing losses, and providing actionable insights through reporting.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and analytical, with strong problem-solving skills to manage inventory discrepancies and drive continuous improvements in warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Inventory Management

Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to inventory control are understood and followed.

Utilize business systems effectively for managing inventory operations.

Conduct investigations and resolve inventory-related queries, implementing sustainable corrective actions.

Ensure NCRs/NCPs/IOs are raised and completed as required.

Maintain accurate stock accountability and minimize claims or damages.
2. Storage and Stock Handling

Consolidate pallets in replenishment areas to optimize storage utilization.

Conduct spot checks on bin locations to ensure accuracy.

Handle products correctly to maintain quality and prevent damage.

Apply all units of measure correctly in accordance with operational standards.

Monitor and manage obsolete, expired, or non-moving stock.
3. Master Data and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
-
Maintain and manage master data (product master) for accurate inventory levels.

Ensure correct uploading of product information upon receipt.
-
Apply WMS functionality accurately across all operations for inventory tracking and reporting.
4. Book-to-Book, Cycle Counts, and Stock Takes

Conduct book-to-book reconciliations at required intervals and investigate discrepancies.

Perform daily cycle counts to maintain high stock accuracy levels.

Conduct empty bin checks daily and resolve any discrepancies promptly.

Prepare and execute stock takes in line with company and customer requirements.

File all inventory records properly for easy retrieval during audits or investigations.
5. Reporting and Analysis

Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly inventory reports to relevant management.

Monitor and maintain inventory KPIs, investigating and resolving any failures.

Analyze stock variances and provide actionable recommendations to improve processes.

Ensure reporting supports both operational efficiency and management decision-making.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric)
-
Diploma or degree in Logistics, Warehouse Management, or Business Management is advantageous

Minimum 3 yearsβ experience in logistics, warehouse, or inventory management with hands-on inventory knowledge

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
