Position Overview
Job Title: Intern – Procurement and Contracting
Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
Employment Type: Contract (6 months)
Salary: R148,800 per annum
Minimum Experience: Internship

Job Functional Area: Procurement and Contracting
This internship offers a hands-on opportunity within GIZ’s Procurement and Contracting Unit, reporting directly to the Head of Unit. You will gain international procurement experience while supporting sustainable, transparent, and efficient procurement practices across Southern Africa.
Key Responsibilities
-
Support implementation of GIZ’s Sustainable Procurement Strategy across materials, logistics, events, service contracts, construction, and financing arrangements
-
Maintain and update information databases and dashboards, including supplier and spend data
-
Generate market intelligence reports and maintain a risk register
-
Review and optimise templates, training manuals, and records management systems
-
Contribute to KPI reporting, identifying trends and piloting new performance metrics
-
Conduct analyses linking GIZ’s strategy with national frameworks such as Preferential Procurement Regulations
-
Review Terms of Reference and specifications for compliance with EU, German, and South African procurement law
-
Enhance digital workflows and knowledge management systems
-
Strengthen internal communication and supplier engagement initiatives
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
-
Bachelor of Commerce in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or related field
-
Progress towards or achievement of CIPS accreditation or membership is an advantage
Experience & Competencies:
-
0–6 months professional experience in procurement, logistics, events, or supply chain management
-
Excellent ICT and MS Office 365 proficiency, including MS Teams (SAP knowledge is an advantage)

Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills
-
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
-
Native English fluency, German language skills considered an asset

Team-oriented, proactive, adaptable, with strong intercultural sensitivity
