Position Overview
The HSSE Officer – Durban will oversee Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental operations at TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa’s Logistics and Specialties sites. The successful candidate will monitor, audit, and implement HSSE policies and systems, drive compliance with legislation, and foster a safety-first culture throughout the organization.
This role requires proactive engagement with operational teams, contractors, and management to reduce risk, ensure compliance, and improve performance metrics across all HSSE functions.
Key Responsibilities
Operational HSSE Management

Monitor compliance with licenses, permits, surveys, and auditable reports, ensuring validity and legislative adherence.

Prepare and manage LMP HSE audits including ISO 14001, 45001, IMS, ONE MAESTRO, MAESTRO Log, Construction Compliance Audits, Legal Compliance Audits, RSR, and SRM+.

Analyze KPI trends and statistics, driving action plans through RAMSES, INTELEX, COMPLYWORKS, and IZI Safety.

Investigate all incidents, non-conformances, and events, advising on corrective and preventive actions and monitoring effective closure.

Recommend suspension of operations when safety or compliance risks justify action.

Roll out HSSE initiatives as directed by the HSE & EL Division, Logistics, Transport, and Integrity & Engineering Technical Teams.
Engineering & Contractor Oversight

Monitor and evaluate HSE contractor performance on projects, ensuring compliance with ICC audits.

Provide input on prevention plans, annual contractor safety plans, and project progress meetings.

Participate in critical barrier testing and ensure alignment of procedures to the Technological Risk Assessment (TRA) philosophy.
Training & Continuous Improvement

Provide training and guidance to LMP staff, Site Principle Champions, and operational teams.

Facilitate continuous improvement of HSEQ management systems and promote a positive safety culture within the organization.

Conduct self-evaluation system audits, monthly emergency drills, HIRA, and task analysis to improve safety performance.
Security Management
-
Oversee and manage the Security Management System at Logistics and Specialties sites, ensuring compliance with company policies and best practices.
Minimum Requirements
-
National Diploma in Safety Management, Occupational Health & Hygiene Management, or an Engineering qualification.

6+ years’ experience in HSSE roles within industrial, logistics, or oil & gas environments.

Knowledge of HSE legislation, integrity management, and corporate HSSE systems.

Successful completion of HSE management systems courses and certifications applicable to the industry.

Strong understanding of company policies, procedures, and HSEQ standards.
-
Valid Code 08 driver’s licence.

English is the working language.
