Position Overview

Unitrans is seeking a Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver (Rigid) for its Pretoria-West branch. The incumbent will be responsible for transporting goods, products, and materials safely and efficiently to and from specified destinations.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to road safety, vehicle maintenance, and accurate delivery documentation, while maintaining excellent customer service and operational compliance.


Key Responsibilities

1. Vehicle Operation and Maintenance

  • Prepare and inspect the vehicle before each trip to ensure roadworthiness.

  • Operate heavy-duty vehicles safely, complying with traffic and company regulations.

  • Perform vehicle inspections after trips and report any defects or maintenance needs.

  • Take full responsibility for the vehicle’s roadworthiness when leaving the depot.

2. Loading, Offloading, and Goods Handling

  • Safely load and offload goods according to company procedures.

  • Ensure goods are properly secured and accounted for during transport.

  • Handle all documentation from dispatch to delivery and return to the distribution centre.

  • Maintain accurate records of all goods transported to customers.

3. Compliance and Safety

  • Comply with all relevant safety regulations and transport laws.

  • Operate in a manner that prioritizes personal safety and the safety of others on the road.

  • Follow all reasonable instructions from the Supervisor or Branch Manager.

4. Work Schedule and Flexibility

  • Be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.

  • Ensure timely delivery and collection of goods to meet operational targets.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric qualification (essential).

  • Code 10 driver’s licence (essential).

  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP); “D” category if transporting Dangerous Goods.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar heavy vehicle driving role.

  • Own reliable transport to and from work.

  • Medically fit with a clean criminal record.

  • Proven track record of safe driving and compliance with traffic laws.
