About the Role

The Health Consultant is responsible for assisting customers in the Health Focus area by offering professional advice on vitamins, supplements, and related health products. The role requires building strong customer relationships, understanding customer needs, and recommending suitable products that align with Dis-Chem’s quality standards and ethical retail practices.

This position also involves maintaining product displays, supporting promotional activities, and ensuring that the Health Department operates efficiently and in line with store policies and procedures. The Health Consultant works closely with team members and management to achieve monthly sales targets while upholding Dis-Chem’s reputation for trust, quality, and service excellence.

The role operates in a fast-paced retail environment and requires flexibility, energy, and a customer-first mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service and Health Advice

The successful candidate will assist and advise customers on vitamins, supplements, and health products, ensuring that the highest levels of customer care and service are consistently delivered. This includes listening to customer needs, answering product-related questions, and providing accurate and helpful recommendations.

Strong communication skills and a professional approach are essential to building customer trust and encouraging repeat business.

Sales and Product Promotion

The Health Consultant is responsible for effectively promoting and selling Dis-Chem Health Focus products. This includes actively engaging with customers, highlighting product benefits, and supporting promotional campaigns.

The role contributes to achieving monthly team, brand, and vendor sales targets through proactive selling and strong product knowledge.

Merchandising and Stock Presentation

The position requires maintaining merchandise displays in the Health Focus area by ensuring that shelves are fully stocked, faced up, and visually appealing. The Health Consultant must adhere to store layouts and merchandising guidelines within the Health Department.

Broadsheet items must be well displayed, promoted, and readily available to maximise sales opportunities.

Promotional Displays and Campaign Support

The Health Consultant will implement promotional displays and merchandising materials as directed. This includes setting up promotional stands, ensuring correct pricing, and keeping promotional areas neat and attractive.

Keeping up to date with current promotions and new product launches is essential to support effective sales conversations with customers.

Stock Control and Department Support

The role includes assisting with back shopping when required to ensure the effective operation of the department and store. The Health Consultant must follow administrative processes and procedures, including weekly returns, stock control, and monitoring stock levels.

Reporting price discrepancies to management promptly is a key responsibility to maintain pricing accuracy and customer trust.

Product Knowledge and Continuous Learning

The Health Consultant must keep abreast of new products, product lines, and developments within the health and wellness industry. Continuous learning supports accurate advice, confident selling, and professional service delivery.

This role encourages the development of product expertise, particularly within vitamins, supplements, and health foods.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Minimum 6 months’ sales experience in a vitamins or health-related environment

  • Strong command of the English language

  • Computer literacy with MS Office

  • Sound numerical skills

  • Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous

  • Qualification in BSc Biomedicine, BSc Biotechnology, or a relevant health-focused field

  • Sales experience in a retail environment

  • Experience in the health industry, including vitamins, supplements, or health foods

  • Fluency in a second language prominently spoken in the area
