Frequently Asked Questions – Head of Finance Retail Executive Jobs

What retail brands does the Head of Retail Finance oversee? The role covers the full Clicks Group Retail portfolio: Clicks South Africa (flagship pharmacy and health/beauty retail), Clicks Africa (sub-Saharan African markets), Sorbet (professional beauty salon franchise), The Body Shop South Africa (international beauty brand franchise), UniHealth (pharmaceutical supply and distribution), and Omni (health and wellness product brand). This multi-brand, multi-channel, multi-country scope makes this role one of the most complex Retail Finance executive positions in South African corporate history.

What does “aligned to the King Code” mean in the context of remuneration analysis? The King IV Report on Corporate Governance for South Africa (King Code) requires JSE-listed companies to disclose and justify executive and employee remuneration in their integrated reports — demonstrating that pay practices are fair, responsible, and linked to sustainable value creation. The Head of Retail Finance is specifically required to manage financial analyses for employee contract negotiations that demonstrate King Code-compliant remuneration — making governance and integrated reporting experience directly relevant to this role.

What is the significance of IFRS compliance in a retail pharmacy group? International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) govern the preparation of Clicks Group’s consolidated financial statements as a JSE-listed entity. In a retail pharmacy group, IFRS compliance involves specific complexities — including IFRS 16 (lease accounting for 1,000+ store leases), IFRS 15 (revenue recognition across multiple business models), IAS 36 (impairment of pharmacy licence intangibles and goodwill), and IFRS 9 (financial instruments for treasury and hedging). The Head of Retail Finance must ensure full IFRS compliance across all six business units and all reported periods.

What is the Clicks Group Transformation Roadmap? Clicks Group’s Transformation Roadmap is the Company’s formal Employment Equity and BBBEE transformation programme — outlining targets for representation across race, gender, and disability categories at all management levels, as well as enterprise development, supplier diversity, and socioeconomic development commitments. The Head of Retail Finance is responsible for building a Retail Finance team that advances this Roadmap — making transformation leadership an explicit component of the role’s people management responsibilities.
