Position Overview
The Head of Data will lead Sun International’s data strategy, architecture, and platforms, ensuring data is accurate, secure, accessible, and strategically valuable across all business functions. This hands-on leadership role oversees data engineering, governance, analytics, and real-time pipelines, while driving a data-driven culture and enabling business insights for operational and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and evolve enterprise data architecture, including lakes, warehouses, marts, and modern platforms like Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, and Databricks.
- Drive data governance, lineage, cataloging, access controls, quality, encryption, and GDPR/POPIA-aligned compliance.
- Lead data engineering delivery, including ETL/ELT pipelines, real-time data flows, and integration of internal and external data sources.
- Enable analytics and reporting through dashboards, KPIs, self-service tools, and regulatory insights.
- Collaborate with software teams to embed data observability and capture into product and platform features.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing data team while supporting executive decision-making.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- Experience: 10–12 years in data architecture, engineering, or analytics, including leadership of data teams and platforms.
- Proven expertise in cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern data tools.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, warehousing, and real-time processing.
- Experience in iGaming, fintech, or other regulated industries.
- Familiarity with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) and SQL-based reporting.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, POPIA) and compliance frameworks.
