Overview

The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) is seeking skilled and hardworking Handymen to support daily maintenance operations at the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court. These roles involve general building repairs, office infrastructure support, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and routine maintenance inspections. Candidates who are semi-skilled in multiple trades and willing to learn will be ideal.


Minimum Requirements

  • ABET or Grade 10.

  • Relevant handyman/maintenance experience.

  • Must be semi-skilled in at least one of the following:

    • Plumbing

    • Electrical

    • Bricklaying

    • Carpentry

    • Mechanical work

  • Must be willing to perform tasks across different trades.

  • Must be physically fit and able to perform manual tasks.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

General Handyman Services

  • Relocate office equipment when required.

  • Repair or replace damaged office furniture.

  • Ensure safe use of tools and equipment at all times.

  • Install light globes, repair plugs, and attend to small electrical issues.

  • Unblock toilets, drains, sinks and basins.

  • Fit and repair doors, handles, and locks.

  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with OHS Act requirements.

  • Oversee and verify quality of delivered office equipment.

Building Maintenance and Repairs

  • Report breakages and structural faults to the supervisor for landlord action.

  • Perform minor repairs on office equipment and fixtures.

  • Attend to small plumbing, carpentry, and electrical tasks.

  • Sign job cards and verify services completed by contractors.

  • Monitor maintenance work conducted by external service providers.

  • Facilitate repairs to water leaks and drainage issues.

  • Maintain safe electrical systems and report hazards.

Routine Inspections and Record Keeping

  • Conduct weekly, monthly, and quarterly building inspections.

  • Accompany landlords or contractors during repair and maintenance visits.

  • Record all inspection findings.

  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance carried out at the court.
