Position Overview

BFM is looking for a skilled Handyman – General Building Maintenance to provide timely, quality, and efficient maintenance services for a variety of equipment and facilities in Cape Town. The successful candidate will perform planned, preventive, and emergency maintenance, ensuring all operational areas are safe, functional, and compliant with client and company standards.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, technically proficient, and proactive, with a strong focus on building maintenance, repairs, and operational support.


Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform tasks according to job cards (work orders) issued in line with client and company requirements.

  • Conduct investigations, evaluations, and restorations on identified equipment malfunctions.

  • Carry out minor electrical repairs and services according to SLA standards.

  • Perform minor plumbing repairs and maintenance as required.

  • Conduct tier 1 inspections and repairs on air-conditioning equipment.

  • Perform office movement tasks including furniture installation, shop fitting, and minor structural repairs (doors, locks, handles, windows).

  • Replace ceiling and carpet tiles, conduct general paint work, and support shop/office maintenance tasks.

  • Inspect and report on fire and access equipment, including fire extinguishers, hose reels, fire hydrants, detectors, and access control systems.

  • Assist Artisans with major repairs and maintenance tasks.

  • Provide regular updates to Facilities Manager, Service Manager, Building Manager, or Resource Coordinator regarding operational restoration status.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with the OHS Act and company ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

  • Maintain safety, operational, and technical standards at all times.


Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Matric / Senior Certificate.

  • N3 Technical Qualification (Electrical or Mechanical).

  • Valid South African Driver’s License.

  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in general handyman and building maintenance tasks.

  • Basic training on hand tools, electrical, and mechanical equipment.

  • Knowledge of OHS Act and ISO 9001 standards.

Advantageous:

  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance within commercial or corporate environments.

  • Exposure to multi-disciplinary maintenance tasks (electrical, plumbing, carpentry).
