Role Purpose

The Handyman at Karan Beef is responsible for the overall upkeep and functional integrity of the facility. You will be tasked with a diverse range of general repairs, preventive maintenance, and new installations. This position requires a proactive problem-solver who can conduct thorough inspections, identify faults accurately, and execute repairs efficiently to ensure minimal downtime for our operations.

Key Job Responsibilities

1. General Repairs & Maintenance

  • Infrastructural Upkeep: Execute a variety of general repairs and maintenance work on buildings, ensuring the structural integrity and aesthetic standards of the facility.

  • Equipment Support: Perform installation and maintenance work on various equipment and machinery used within the production environment.

  • Diagnostics: Conduct regular inspections and fault-finding exercises to determine the most cost-effective and durable methods for repair.

2. Specialized Technical Tasks

  • Plumbing Systems: Apply thorough knowledge of plumbing systems to handle maintenance, leak detection, and complex repairs.

  • Civil & Finishing Work: Utilize skills in carpentry, tiling, ceiling installation, and woodwork to complete renovation or repair projects.

  • Metalwork: Perform welding tasks as required for the repair of machinery, gates, and other metal structures.

3. Operational Safety & Reliability

  • Tool Proficiency: Demonstrate the expert ability to use a wide variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Availability: Maintain a flexible schedule to work weekends, public holidays, and overtime to support emergency repairs or project deadlines.

  • Safety Awareness: Uphold a high level of safety awareness, ensuring all work is completed in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Requirements & Competencies

Education & Experience

  • Qualification: Matric (Grade 12) certificate.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Handyman or Maintenance Worker in a commercial or industrial setting.

  • Technical Breadth: Proven experience in carpentry, tiling, ceilings, plumbing, welding, and woodwork.

  • Language: Conversant in both English and Afrikaans (essential for effective communication in the Heidelberg region).

Skills & Attributes

  • Diagnostic Ability: Strong fault-finding skills and the ability to work independently under pressure.

  • Reliability: A dependable person with high attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.

  • Physical Health: Good physical health is required for the manual nature of the role.
