Purpose of the Role

The Handyman serves as a critical frontline technical resource, ensuring the operational integrity of our client’s facility. You will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the building, responding to immediate repair needs (reactive) while following a strict schedule of preventative (planned) maintenance. Your work ensures that the workplace remains productive, safe, and professionally maintained according to international corporate standards.


Key Job Responsibilities

1. General Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Technical Repairs: Execute repairs and maintenance on lighting systems, plumbing fixtures, electrical connections, and general carpentry.

  • Fixtures & Fittings: Maintain office furniture, locks, doors, and other building fixtures to ensure they are in perfect working order.

  • Subcontractor Management: Support and monitor external subcontractors during specialized repairs, ensuring they adhere to site-specific safety regulations and quality expectations.

2. Inspections & Reporting

  • Routine Checks: Conduct regular building inspections to identify wear and tear or potential hazards before they become critical issues.

  • Documentation: Complete work orders and technical reports with high accuracy, ensuring all maintenance activities are logged in the facility management system.

  • Issue Logging: Maintain a proactive log of all infrastructure issues and follow through until resolution.

3. Operational Safety & Workshop Control

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and client-specific safety protocols.

  • Workshop Upkeep: Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the technical workshop and ensure all tools are inventoried and in good repair.

  • Tool Mastery: Demonstrate the safe and proficient use of a wide range of hand and power tools.

4. Client Service & Communication

  • Responsive Service: Respond promptly to client queries and maintenance requests with a professional and helpful attitude.

  • Escalation: Identify complex technical faults that require specialized intervention and escalate them to management timeously.


Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirement: Matric (Grade 12).

  • Advantageous: An NQF Level 4 technical qualification (N3 or equivalent in a technical trade).

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Work History: 2–5 years of experience in facilities management or building maintenance.

  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated skill in plumbing, electrical systems, and the use of professional hand/power tools.

  • Service Focus: Strong customer service orientation and time management skills.
