Position Overview

The Groundsman is responsible for maintaining the external areas of military bases, including lawns, gardens, flower beds, shrubs, trees, and other landscaped areas.

Candidates must be physically fit, disciplined, and able to work in a team or independently.


Key Responsibilities

  • Cultivate garden areas, prepare soil, and plant flowers, trees, and shrubs.

  • Maintain flower beds, lawns, and landscaped areas by fertilizing, irrigating, weeding, and pruning.

  • Remove alien vegetation and general refuse from terrains.

  • Mow lawns, cut edges, and maintain neatness of unit areas.

  • Handle, operate, and maintain gardening equipment (rotary mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, pole pruners, hand tools, etc.).

  • Assist in preparing grounds for functions and parades.

  • Apply Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) measures at all times.

  • Monitor plant health and practice pest control as required.

  • Report defects or maintenance issues to supervisors.


Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications:

  • ABET qualification (minimum).

Experience & Skills:

  • No prior experience required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal).

  • Knowledge of gardening, landscaping, and maintenance equipment.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team.

  • Physical strength for handling materials and equipment.

  • Ability to prioritise and organise work effectively.
