Salary

Level 02: R138 486 per annum

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 / ABET Level 4 or equivalent qualification

  • Relevant experience in gardening and grounds maintenance within a hospital or institutional environment will be an advantage

  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects

  • Competency in operating machinery and grounds maintenance equipment safely and efficiently

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team while following safety protocols.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful Groundsman will be responsible for the effective maintenance and upkeep of hospital grounds, including:

  • Maintaining lawns, gardens, and hospital terrain in a clean and orderly manner

  • Operating, maintaining, and safely handling gardening tools, power equipment, and machinery

  • Performing heavy manual labour, including lifting, moving, and placing heavy objects

  • Ensuring the hospital environment is aesthetically maintained and safe for patients, staff, and visitors

  • Reporting any hazards or maintenance issues to the relevant supervisors

  • Supporting the overall cleanliness and functionality of the hospital grounds through consistent, reliable work

This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and adherence to safety procedures in all maintenance activities.

Work Environment

The posts are based at the Northern Cape Mental Health Hospital in Kimberley. The Groundsman will work primarily outdoors, maintaining hospital grounds in all weather conditions. Collaboration with other staff members is required to ensure a well-maintained and safe environment.

The role is physically demanding, requiring lifting, bending, and operating equipment safely. Candidates must demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to maintaining high standards.
