Position Overview
The Department of Water and Sanitation is looking for four (4) dedicated General Workers to join the Southern Operations Directorate at Uitkeer. Successful candidates will be responsible for assisting with general maintenance, cleaning, and manual labour tasks that support the department’s daily operations and infrastructure management.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualification: ABET Certificate (Grade 10 equivalent).

Added Advantage: Any higher qualification or prior experience in manual or maintenance work.

Knowledge and Skills:
-
Basic understanding of general work and use of tools, equipment, and appliances.

Familiarity with lawn care, pruning, and trimming processes.
-
Understanding of chemical use (dilution/mixing) and maintenance of equipment.
-
Awareness of health and safety procedures in the workplace.
-
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work outdoors in varying conditions.

Basic understanding of Government legislation and public service principles.

Key Responsibilities
-
Perform general assistant duties including loading and off-loading furniture, materials, and equipment to relevant destinations.

Clean and maintain government vehicles, ensuring they are kept in good working condition.

Maintain clean and safe workstations, including offices, yards, and outdoor spaces.

Conduct lawn cutting, trimming, and general ground maintenance to keep premises neat.

Assist in the cutting and stockpiling of trees and vegetation where required.

Provide general support to the Southern Operations team in maintaining public infrastructure and equipment.

Ensure adherence to health and safety standards and report any hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
