Position Overview

The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking fifteen (15) General Workers to support the Northern Operations Directorate in Groblersdal. These roles will provide practical and general support to artisans and technicians across Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Maintenance divisions.

Successful candidates will be responsible for assisting with general maintenance, grounds upkeep, and operational tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of government water infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: ABET Certificate (Grade 10 equivalent). Higher qualifications are advantageous.

  • Added Advantage: Relevant practical experience in a similar environment.

  • Knowledge and Skills:

    • General understanding of lawn care, vegetation clearance, and grounds maintenance.

    • Basic knowledge of maintenance practices for safe and efficient upkeep of government water infrastructure.

    • Awareness of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures.

    • Understanding of government legislation and policy implementation.

    • Physically fit and willing to perform practical assessments during the recruitment process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist artisans and technicians with maintenance and operational tasks.

  • Load and off-load equipment, tools, and materials as directed by supervisors.

  • Perform general maintenance tasks including fencing, weed control, gardening, painting, maintenance of firebreaks, and herbicide application.

  • Conduct routine inspections of government water infrastructure and associated facilities.

  • Identify and report faults, defects, and safety hazards promptly to supervisors.

  • Adhere strictly to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and all related safety regulations.

  • Assist with other general duties as requested to support departmental operations.
