Do you want to work for a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they are doing? Tiger Brands, Africa’s largest food producer, is looking for a dedicated General Worker (Slicer and Bagging Operator) to join our manufacturing facility in Secunda. This is a vital role in our Albany bread production line, ensuring that our products are perfectly sliced, safely packaged, and ready for households across South Africa.

Role Summary

The Slicer and Bagging Operator is responsible for the technical operation of high-speed slicing and packaging machinery. This role ensures that every loaf of bread meets the physical quality standards consumers expect from the Albany brand. You will be tasked with maintaining the “smooth running” of the machine, which involves constant monitoring, minor adjustments, and strict adherence to food safety protocols.

Key Work Output and Accountabilities

Machine Operation & Efficiency

  • Smooth Running: Monitor the slicer and bagging machines to ensure consistent performance and avoid production bottlenecks.

  • Slicing Quality: Ensure the blades are functioning correctly to produce uniform slices without damaging the bread.

  • Bagging & Sealing: Oversee the automated bagging process to ensure loaves are correctly positioned and seals are secure to maintain freshness.

Quality Control & Maintenance

  • Visual Inspection: Check loaves for consistent thickness and proper bagging throughout the shift.

  • Basic Troubleshooting: Identify minor mechanical issues or jams in the slicer and bagging unit and resolve them or escalate to maintenance as needed.

  • Waste Reduction: Minimize product waste by ensuring the machine is correctly calibrated for different loaf sizes.

Housekeeping & Hygiene

  • Food Safety: Maintain world-class housekeeping and hygiene standards in the slicing and packaging area.

  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and machine guarding procedures.

Requirements & Competencies

Education & Experience

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) is essential.

  • Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically operating machinery in the food industry, is highly advantageous.

  • Language: Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Skills & Attributes

  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to understand and operate automated industrial machinery.

  • Attention to Detail: Precision in monitoring slice quality and bag alignment.

  • Physical Stamina: Capacity to stand for long periods in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Integrity: Commitment to following safety rules and hygiene standards without constant supervision.

Employment Equity

In accordance with the Employment Equity Plan of Tiger Brands and its goals and targets, preference may be given, but is not limited, to candidates from under-represented designated groups. Tiger Brands is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.

The Tiger Brands Journey

Tiger Brands is a powerhouse in the South African FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) sector. By joining our team in Secunda, you become part of a legacy that feeds millions. We value employees who take pride in their work and understand that their contribution at the slicer directly impacts the quality of the bread on a family’s breakfast table.
