GENERAL ASSISTANT: MOHLAKENG (RANDFONTEIN, GAUTENG)

Role Purpose

The General Assistant is the backbone of the store’s daily operations. Your primary responsibility is to ensure comprehensive customer service by assisting shoppers with product queries and maintaining a world-class shopping aisle. You will be responsible for the physical merchandising of stock according to technical planograms, ensuring correct pricing, and maintaining strict adherence to Health and Safety (OHSA) requirements. This role requires an individual who is willing to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays, and can perform effectively under pressure.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

1. Customer Service & Advice

Consultation: Proactively advise and assist customers on the correct products for their needs, handling general queries with a “can-do” mentality.
Complaint Resolution: Act as the first point of contact to resolve customer complaints or escalate them to the Store Manager when necessary.
Welcome Culture: Make every client feel welcome, showing genuine involvement in resolving their problems or questions.

2. Merchandising & Planogram Standards

Stock Placement: Ensure your designated area of responsibility is fully merchandised according to the store layout and official planograms.
Bulk Merchandising: Ensure that bulk stock areas are packed safely and logically to maximize space and accessibility.
Labeling: Maintain 100% accuracy in shelf price labeling, ensuring that the price on the shelf matches the system price at all times.

3. Housekeeping & Risk Management

Aisle Maintenance: Keep your area free of obstacles or hazards, ensuring customers can navigate the store without risk of injury.
Immediate Stocking: Merchandise new stock immediately upon receipt to keep aisles clear and shelves full.
Checklist Compliance: Complete all required facility checklists, including Canteen and Toilet/Shower schedules, to maintain high hygiene standards.

4. Safety (OHSA) & Stock Loss Control

OHSA Compliance: Strictly adhere to safety protocols, including the use of safety gear and ensuring racking is secure for both staff and customers.
Stock Loss: Monitor and report any damaged or expired stock to the Store Manager to minimize financial loss.
Security Awareness: Report any suspicious behavior or discrepancies in stock levels immediately.

Requirements & Qualifications

To be considered for this General Assistant role in Mohlakeng, candidates must meet the following:

Option A: Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 with at least one (1) year of work-related retail experience.
Option B: Grade 12 (Matric) without prior work experience.
Language: Ability to communicate fluently in English and the dominant local language spoken in the Randfontein area.
Identity: Must possess a valid South African ID or a legal work permit.
Skills: Ability to perform basic numerical calculations accurately for stock counting and pricing.
Availability: Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as per the retail roster.
