Position Overview
The General Assistant will ensure the cleanliness, hygiene, and general upkeep of classrooms, hostels, administrative offices, halls, corridors, kitchens, and staff rooms. This role is essential in maintaining a safe and organized environment for both staff and students.
Key Responsibilities

Clean classrooms, hostels, administration buildings, halls, corridors, and toilets.

Sweep, mop, and maintain cleanliness of floors, windows, desks, and chairs before and after class periods.

Maintain hygiene in toilets, ensuring availability of hand wash materials and toilet paper.

Maintain clean and safe environments in computer labs and other learning spaces.
-
Clean and dust all computers, desks, and other office equipment.
-
Arrange chairs and tables in classrooms and examination rooms as required.

Maintain cleanliness in kitchens and staff rooms before, during, and after use.

Properly manage and utilize cleaning materials efficiently.

Issue kitchen utensils when needed and ensure correct use of cleaning supplies.
Minimum Requirements
-
Grade 10 Certificate
-
2–3 years relevant experience in a cleaning environment such as a school, hostel, or educational facility (advantageous)

Basic knowledge of hygiene practices

Knowledge of cleaning products and equipment usage

Basic literacy and communication skills
-
Willingness to work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, and public holidays

Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official Western Cape languages
