Role Summary

The Food Services Assistant is a vital role responsible for supporting the end-to-end delivery of high-quality catering services. You will be tasked with maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all customers, staff, and visitors. From meal preparation and serving to ensuring strict adherence to food hygiene and allergen guidelines, your contribution ensures that our kitchen and dining areas operate at the highest standards of excellence.

Key Job Responsibilities

1. Culinary Support & Meal Service

  • Preparation: Assist the culinary team with basic meal preparation and staging of ingredients.

  • Service: Serve meals to customers and visitors with a friendly and professional demeanor, ensuring portion control and quality standards are met.

  • Equipment Operation: Operate various kitchen equipment safely and efficiently according to manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols.

2. Hygiene, Safety & Compliance

  • Sanitation: Maintain high standards of cleanliness in both the kitchen and dining areas, following a rigorous cleaning schedule.

  • Food Safety: Strictly follow food hygiene and safety regulations, including a deep understanding of allergen guidelines to protect our customers.

  • Safety Culture: Ensure a zero-harm environment by following Tsebo’s health and safety standards at all times.

3. Stock & Administration

  • Inventory Control: Assist with stock rotation (FIFO) and proper storage of food items and supplies.

  • Record-Keeping: Maintain basic records related to temperature logs, stock usage, and cleaning schedules to ensure compliance with audit requirements.

4. Customer Service & Teamwork

  • Interpersonal Service: Provide friendly and professional customer service, acting as an ambassador for the TsAfrika and Tsebo brands.

  • Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a team, following instructions from supervisors to ensure the smooth running of the unit.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirement: National Senior Certificate (Matric).

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Work History: Proven experience in a food service or hospitality environment is essential.

  • Service Passion: A genuine passion for great service and maintaining high operational standards.

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of basic food hygiene and kitchen safety.

  • Reliability: Friendly, reliable, and able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Communication: Good communication skills with a positive, “can-do” attitude.
