Role Summary

The Food Service Assistant is a versatile position responsible for supporting the entire culinary cycle. Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will perform a variety of tasks ranging from basic food production and preparation to serving customers at the front of house. You will act as an essential support pillar, ensuring that all operations comply with strict Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations while maintaining a clean, professional, and welcoming environment for our clients.


Key Work Output and Accountabilities

1. Culinary & Production Support

  • Food Production: Perform a variety of tasks associated with basic food preparation, following standardized recipes and production schedules.

  • Back of House Assistance: Provide general support in the kitchen, including cleaning, organizing, and ensuring ingredients are ready for the chefs.

  • Safety Standards: Adhere strictly to all HACCP and Food Safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination and ensure the highest quality of food service.

2. Front of House & Customer Service

  • Service Excellence: Deliver a world-class service experience to our clients and customers at the service points.

  • Customer Interaction: Handle customer requests and queries with a professional and friendly demeanor.

  • Presentation: Ensure the front-of-house service area is always fully stocked, clean, and visually appealing.

3. Operational Integrity

  • Hygiene: Maintain exemplary levels of personal hygiene and professional appearance at all times.

  • General Support: Provide flexible support across both front and back of house as required to ensure the efficient running of the contract or unit.

  • Compliance: Follow all established safety guidelines and company procedures to maintain a zero-harm working environment.


Requirements & Competencies

Education & Experience

  • Minimum Education: Matric (Grade 12) is essential.

  • Core Experience: Proven working experience within the Hospitality Industry is essential.

  • Customer Service: Previous experience in a customer-facing role will be a distinct advantage.

  • Certification: A qualification in Food and Beverage or Culinary Arts will be a significant advantage.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of food preparation techniques and food safety standards.

  • Communication: Strong verbal communication skills to interact effectively with team members and customers.

  • Personal Attributes: Passionate, reliable, and takes pride in a clean and tidy workspace.

  • Resilience: Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
