About the Department
The South African Air Force (SAAF) provides support and operational readiness across all bases. At 68 Air School, Food Service Aids play a vital role in ensuring high standards of hygiene, food preparation, and service to personnel, contributing directly to morale and well-being.
Position Overview
The Food Service Aid will assist with the preparation, serving, and cleaning associated with meals and beverages. This role ensures compliance with hygiene standards, proper handling of equipment, and effective service to staff and authorized visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the hygienic preparation of food: washing, cutting, and cooking.
- Prepare and serve tea, coffee, and beverages.
- Supply water and other beverages on dining tables.
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, dining hall, and food storage areas.
- Remove kitchen and dining waste and ensure proper disposal.
- Pack supplies in storage areas according to procedure.
- Wash dishes and clean after meals.
- Set dining tables, including decoration where required.
- Serve food to tables and wait on personnel as needed.
- Ensure only authorized personnel access kitchen and food areas.
- Monitor equipment serviceability and report defects or shortages.
- Apply high standards of hygiene and safety in all activities.
Minimum Requirements
- ABET qualification or equivalent.
- No previous experience required.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation and service procedures.
- Ability to work in a team and individually.
- Strong communication skills (verbal).
- Attention to detail and adherence to hygiene standards.
