Unitrans is recruiting a high-calibre Fleet Controller to join the Petroleum Division on the Shell East London contract on a permanent basis in East London, Eastern Cape. About the Role

The Fleet Controller is responsible for coordinating and monitoring fleet and driver activities while handling a range of administrative tasks that support operational efficiency. This role requires close interaction with drivers, customers, and internal stakeholders to ensure that deliveries are executed efficiently, issues are resolved promptly, and service levels are consistently maintained.

The position demands strong organisational skills, the ability to work shifts, and a hands-on approach to fleet supervision and problem-solving in a fast-paced operational environment.


Key Responsibilities

Fleet Monitoring and Control

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring fleet progress and vehicle utilisation, tracking trucks in real time, and ensuring optimal deployment of fleet resources. This includes supervising and controlling driver activities to ensure compliance with operational requirements and schedules.


Driver Supervision and Support

A core responsibility of the role involves assisting drivers with operational challenges, addressing breakdowns, and ensuring that driver activities are effectively coordinated. The Fleet Controller will capture breakdown incidents accurately and ensure they are communicated and managed appropriately.


Customer and Operational Communication

The role requires handling customer-related issues, resolving problems efficiently, and communicating any factory or operational challenges to customers in a professional and timely manner. Maintaining strong customer relationships through effective communication is essential.


Administrative and Data Capturing Duties

The Fleet Controller will handle various administrative tasks, including data capturing and recordkeeping related to fleet activities, breakdowns, and operational performance. Accuracy and consistency in administrative reporting are critical to the role.


Operational Support and Order Management

Responsibilities include assisting with obtaining extra orders when required and supporting operational teams to ensure service continuity and efficiency across fleet operations.


Minimum Requirements

Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12)

  • Previous administrative experience in a similar environment
