Contract Retail Cashier Opportunity in Kyalami Store

Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is recruiting experienced candidates for the position of Fixed Term Cashier – Kyalami Corner at its Kyalami Store in Midrand, Gauteng. This contract opportunity falls within the Retail division and Operations functional area.

Purpose of the Role

The Cashier will support customer service at the point of sale while ensuring a professional and seamless shopping experience. The role requires recording customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system in line with company policies and standard operating procedures.

The position operates with zero tolerance toward inaccuracies and focuses on eliminating fraud risk while maintaining strict compliance with security and financial controls.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Requirements

Grade 12 / Matric.

Minimum of 6 months’ cashier/till operations experience.

Computer literacy in MS Office.

Sound numerical skills.

Strong command of the English language.

Basic customer service skills.

Willing and able to work retail hours.

Advantageous

Third additional language.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service and Communication

Adhere strictly to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures.

Establish professional relationships with customers.

Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management.

Carry out and manage Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles.

Be aware of current sales and promotions.

Address queries regarding store merchandise.

Maintain emotional intelligence and social awareness in all customer interactions.

Transaction Processing and Cash Control

Transact all purchases by receiving and processing payments, including cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted payment methods.

Process loyalty cards, including accelerator partner programmes such as Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards and eBucks.

Ensure all outgoing stock, items, or scripts are scanned and paid for.

Ensure that all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by the supervisor.

Exchange merchandise and accept authorised returns.

Be responsible for cash flow management.

Ensure cash is placed in the drop safe according to Dis-Chem’s SOPs.

Ensure all money is kept securely inside the till at all times.

Handle daily takings confidentially and discuss only with management.

Ensure personal till code and password are restricted, secure, and changed regularly.

Security and Risk Management

Ensure colleagues and customers are not exposed to risk.

Adhere to Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures.

Be alert to suspicious behaviour and report concerns to management.

Maintain accuracy and attention to detail to eliminate fraud risk.

Operational Performance

Adhere to the customer turnover hourly rate.

Maintain in-depth knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers.

Analyse basic reports where required.

Ensure compliance with company standards and procedures at all times.
