Trade Tested Fitter Opportunity in FMCG Engineering
Tiger Brands is recruiting a Qualified Trade Tested Fitter for a full-time position based in Boksburg, Gauteng. This role forms part of the Engineering function and is responsible for maintaining plant equipment to world-class standards while supporting the Maintenance Coordinator and shift-based teams.
The Fitter will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the plant, ensuring maximum equipment availability, product quality, safety compliance, and cost efficiency. This position is ideal for a technically strong artisan with experience in FMCG production environments and high-speed packaging machinery.
About the Role
The Fitter is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimising plant equipment and associated devices to ensure plant availability and product quality at minimum cost. The role supports engineering and production teams by embedding maintenance processes across the organisation and ensuring operational excellence.
This position requires a proactive artisan who can operate independently within a plant environment, participate in shift work, and contribute to plant performance targets, including Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
The Fitter provides specialist support to shift-based teams during operations and assists as a functional expert in problem solving when required.
Key Responsibilities
The Fitter is responsible for carrying out running repairs on plant equipment during shifts to minimise downtime and ensure continuous production.
The role includes participating in maintenance planning meetings, contributing suggestions, clarifying work requirements, and executing planned maintenance tasks. Building and supporting structured maintenance programmes forms a critical part of the function.
Maintenance tasks must be executed to maximise plant availability and ensure OEE targets are achieved.
The Fitter operates safely at all times, identifying and highlighting unsafe work practices so that corrective action can be implemented.
Reporting and administration responsibilities include completing required engineering and production reports to support operational performance.
The role includes call-out and standby responsibilities, including overtime work where required.
Maintenance and Plant Performance
The Fitter must maintain, repair, and optimise plant and associated equipment to ensure plant availability, cost control, safety compliance, and product quality.
Strong understanding of production machinery and equipment is required, particularly within high-speed packaging environments.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong logical and diagnostic approach to troubleshooting, ensuring sustainable solutions to engineering challenges.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Candidates must be physically capable of carrying out duties within a plant environment and working shifts.
The Fitter must be core competent in maintenance systems and have a solid understanding of engineering standards.
A Qualified Trade Tested Fitter certification is mandatory.
Candidates must hold NTC3, including matric mathematics and science.
A minimum of 5 years’ fitting experience is required.
Industry experience of at least 2 years within an FMCG environment is required.
Strong knowledge of high-speed packaging machinery is essential.
A solid understanding of production machinery and equipment is required.
