About FlySafair

Safair Operations, operating as FlySafair, is one of South Africa’s leading low-cost airlines — consistently recognised as South Africa’s most on-time airline and a trusted carrier for domestic air travel across the country. With a growing fleet, a significant Head Office operation in Johannesburg, and a network of bases in Cape Town, Durban, and Lanseria, FlySafair’s facilities and infrastructure require continuous professional maintenance to support the airline’s operational excellence.

The Facilities Maintenance Operator at the Johannesburg Head Office maintains the physical infrastructure, equipment, and machinery that keeps the airline’s ground operations running reliably — a role that directly supports FlySafair’s operational standards.

Preference will be given to members of under-represented designated groups in the selection process.

Plumbing & General Maintenance

  • Maintain a sound general understanding of maintenance works — applying practical knowledge across electrical, mechanical, civil, and building maintenance functions as required.

Tool & Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic or testing equipment — applying correct tool selection, safe operating procedures, and maintenance best practice throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions – Facilities Maintenance Operator Jobs Johannesburg

How does this role differ from the other FlySafair posts on this site? FlySafair currently has six posts published on this site — Training Administrator, Stock & Compliance Team Leader, Continued Airworthiness Specialist, Customer Service Agent (OR Tambo), First Officer, and this Facilities Maintenance Operator. All previous FlySafair posts are aviation-specific operational roles. The Facilities Maintenance Operator is the only ground-based, non-aviation-specialist post — making it FlySafair’s most accessible vacancy for candidates with general construction and maintenance backgrounds rather than aviation qualifications. It is also the only FlySafair post at the Head Office (rather than at an airport base).

Why is a valid driver’s licence required for a facilities maintenance role? The FlySafair Head Office in Johannesburg is not the only facility the Maintenance Operator may need to service — maintenance personnel are often required to travel between facilities, collect materials or spares, or attend to off-site maintenance requirements. A valid driver’s licence enables the Operator to fulfil these mobile maintenance requirements independently and efficiently.

What types of plumbing maintenance are likely at an airline head office? An airline head office is a large commercial building with significant plumbing infrastructure — including ablution facilities, kitchen/canteen plumbing, geyser systems, fire suppression water systems, and drainage. Common plumbing maintenance tasks include geyser servicing and repair, tap and valve replacement, drain blockage clearing, pipe repair, and water pressure management. The Facilities Maintenance Operator applies their plumbing knowledge across all these systems — as well as escalating complex issues to specialist contractors where required.

Does FlySafair accept emailed applications? No — the vacancy notice explicitly states that external email applications will not be accepted. All applications must be submitted through FlySafair’s official careers portal. Emailed applications will be disregarded regardless of the applicant’s qualifications or experience.
