Role Summary

The Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary plays a vital role in the healthcare ecosystem by providing essential bedside care and supporting the professional nursing staff. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment and ensuring that patients receive holistic care that respects their dignity and privacy. Key Work Output and Accountabilities

Consistency of Care & Patient Support

  • Direct Patient Care: Practice patient care according to the SANC Scope of Practice, assuming total responsibility for assigned activities.

  • Vital Signs Monitoring: Accurately monitor and record patient vital signs, reporting any significant changes to the sister-in-charge.

  • Hygiene & Comfort: Maintain a therapeutic, clean, and safe environment for all patients, free from medico-legal hazards.

  • Infection Control: Strictly adhere to the principles of infection prevention and all standard medical precautions to ensure patient safety.

Governance, Quality, and Risk Management

  • Waste Management: Adhere to Netcare’s medical waste management principles and all other environmental safety protocols.

  • Health & Safety: Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act.

  • Stock & Equipment: Ensure all clinical stock is well-controlled. You are responsible for the correct use, cleaning, and storage of medical equipment, reporting any necessary repairs immediately.

  • Confidentiality: Protect patient privacy by maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.

Transformation & Teamwork

  • Collaborative Environment: Actively participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to achieve ward goals and ensure smooth patient handovers.

  • Stakeholder Relations: Maintain excellent public relations with patients, relatives, and visitors through effective communication and empathy.

Personal and Professional Development

  • Competency Maintenance: Assume full responsibility for maintaining your competence in CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Continuous Learning: Stay active in your own professional development to keep pace with Netcare’s evolving clinical policies and procedures.

Requirements

Education and Registration (Essential)

  • Grade 12: A valid Matric certificate is essential.

  • Nursing Qualification: An NQF level 3 or 4 nursing qualification.

  • SANC Registration: Current and valid registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary.

  • Legal Compliance: Strict compliance with the SANC code for an ENA and all applicable Health Care Legislations.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Surgical Experience: Previous experience in a Surgical Ward would be a significant advantage.

  • Nursing Principles: Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices.

  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including moving patients and standing for long periods.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position requiring professional flexibility. You must be willing to work various shifts, including night duty, weekends, and public holidays, to ensure 24/7 patient coverage.
