The Department of Health is inviting applications from suitably qualified and responsible candidates for the position of Driver (X1 Post) within the Transport Directorate at Far East Rand Hospital. This role is critical in supporting hospital operations through the safe and efficient transportation of patients, staff, documents, and equipment.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Grade 10 or equivalent qualification
-
Valid Code 10 (C1) / (EB) driver’s licence
-
Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)

Ability to read and write

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work under pressure and function effectively within a team

Ability to work independently when required

Willingness to work shifts, public holidays, and weekends

Ability to drive and operate a tractor with implements
⚠️ NB: A driving test and medical assessment are compulsory as part of the selection process.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
-
Executing all authorised transportation trips of patients, staff, documents, and equipment
-
Transporting items to and from various destinations as required
-
Conducting daily vehicle inspections, including checking oil, fuel, water, and tyre levels
-
Reporting minor and major vehicle defects or accidents immediately to the Supervisor or Manager
-
Ensuring full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related procedures
-
Attending to enquiries in a professional manner and providing guidance when required
-
Promoting proper handling, safekeeping, and control of government vehicles and accessories
-
Ensuring that the driver’s licence and PDP are always valid and in possession
-
Operating a tractor with implements when required
-
Keeping state vehicles clean, neat, and roadworthy at all times
-
Applying knowledge of transport policies and government fleet management
This role requires a high level of responsibility, discipline, and commitment to safety standards.
