The Western Cape Department of Health invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of DRIVER (SUPPORT SERVICES) at Karl Bremer Hospital under the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services. Salary

R138 486 per annum

Remuneration will be paid according to government salary scales for Level 02 public service positions.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualification:

• Basic numeracy and literacy skills.

Experience Requirements:

• Appropriate experience working as a driver in a hospital or institutional environment will be advantageous.

Inherent Job Requirements:

• Valid Code B or EB driver’s licence.

• Willingness to work shifts, including night duty.

• Willingness to work overtime and perform standby duties after working hours, including weekends.

• Access to a secure lock-up garage at residence or behind locked gates.

Competencies and Skills:

• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.

• Good knowledge of the Peninsula road network.

• Knowledge of Transport Circular U2 33-2009.

• Ability to work independently with accountability and responsibility.

• Ability to perform under pressure in a busy healthcare environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Transport Services

• Transport hospital goods, medical supplies, and official documents between facilities.

• Transport hospital personnel and authorized passengers when required.

Vehicle Administration

• Complete and maintain accurate vehicle log sheets.

• Assist with transport administrative tasks as required by supervisors.

Vehicle Maintenance and Safety

• Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, including:

  • Cleaning vehicles regularly.

  • Reporting vehicle defects and mechanical problems.

  • Taking vehicles for scheduled services and repairs.

Operational Support

• Assist Transport Officers with general administrative and operational duties.

• Ensure compliance with road safety and transport regulations during all trips.

The Driver (Support Services) plays a key role in ensuring that healthcare services operate efficiently through reliable transport support.

Work Environment

The position is based at Karl Bremer Hospital within the Metro Health Services Chief Directorate.

The role may require long-distance driving within the Peninsula, working flexible hours, and responding to urgent transport requests from hospital departments.
