Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualification:
- NQF Level 3 (Grade 10 Certificate) / ABET / AET or equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA.
Licence and Certification:
- Valid Driverβs Licence.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years driving and operating specialised equipment experience.
Knowledge and Competencies:
- Knowledge of operating specialised machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals and operating instructions.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Good eyesight and physical fitness.
- Ability to perform vehicle safety inspections.
Candidates must demonstrate responsibility, reliability, and technical operational awareness.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
- Operate specialised agricultural and maintenance equipment.
- Perform grading of gravel roads.
- Perform shoulder maintenance and re-ravelling activities.
Transport Services
- Provide driving services for staff, work teams, and materials.
- Transport goods and equipment safely.
Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspection of vehicles and machinery.
- Report mechanical defects promptly.
- Monitor oil, fuel, water, and tyre conditions.
- Perform cleaning and lubrication of equipment.
Record Keeping
- Maintain vehicle and machinery log sheets.
- Complete trip authorization records.
Safety and Compliance
- Apply safety and precautionary measures during operations.
- Follow occupational safety procedures.
The Driver Operator plays a critical role in supporting infrastructure maintenance and agricultural operational logistics.
