Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualification:

• NQF Level 3 (Grade 10 Certificate) / ABET / AET or equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA.

Licence and Certification:

• Valid Driver’s Licence.
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years driving and operating specialised equipment experience.

Knowledge and Competencies:

• Knowledge of operating specialised machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret manuals and operating instructions.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Good eyesight and physical fitness.
• Ability to perform vehicle safety inspections.

Candidates must demonstrate responsibility, reliability, and technical operational awareness.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Equipment Operation

• Operate specialised agricultural and maintenance equipment.
• Perform grading of gravel roads.
• Perform shoulder maintenance and re-ravelling activities.

Transport Services

• Provide driving services for staff, work teams, and materials.
• Transport goods and equipment safely.

Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance

• Conduct routine inspection of vehicles and machinery.
• Report mechanical defects promptly.
• Monitor oil, fuel, water, and tyre conditions.
• Perform cleaning and lubrication of equipment.

Record Keeping

• Maintain vehicle and machinery log sheets.
• Complete trip authorization records.

Safety and Compliance

• Apply safety and precautionary measures during operations.
• Follow occupational safety procedures.

The Driver Operator plays a critical role in supporting infrastructure maintenance and agricultural operational logistics.
