About the Department

The Office of the Minister and the Office of the Deputy Minister play a critical role in providing strategic leadership and direct executive support within the department. These offices ensure effective coordination of programmes, communication, and operations. The Driver/Messenger role supports these functions by ensuring the secure, timely, and reliable delivery of documents, passengers, and essential items.

This role is ideal for individuals who value structure, reliability, and a well-organised working environment within the public sector.


Position Overview

The Driver/Messenger is responsible for transporting passengers, delivering official documents, maintaining vehicle safety standards, and supporting registry functions. The role demands reliability, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of road networks across Gauteng, particularly Pretoria.

There are two posts available, one for each office:

  • Office of the Minister
  • Office of the Deputy Minister

Key Responsibilities

Transportation & Document Delivery

  • Drive light and medium vehicles to transport departmental officials and deliver items including documents, mail, and office equipment.
  • Collect, distribute, and track the movement of official correspondence between offices and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure secure handling and accurate delivery of all materials.

Vehicle Maintenance & Compliance

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Report any mechanical issues or defects immediately.
  • Keep the allocated vehicle clean, roadworthy, and in optimal operating condition.
  • Maintain accurate records of all vehicle usage, including mileage logs and trip sheets.

Administrative & Registry Support

  • Assist the Registry with filing, tracking, and distributing incoming correspondence.
  • Help trace and retrieve files when required.
  • Make photocopies, fax documents, and support general document management functions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 / ABET qualification
  • At least 7 months of relevant work experience
  • Valid Code 8 (B) driver’s licence
  • Knowledge of major routes, road networks, and the general layout of Pretoria and surrounding areas
