What Does a Driver Do at BUCO?
Drivers are a critical part of the BUCO customer experience. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe, prompt, and efficient delivery of building materials and hardware products to the company’s clients. You will ensure that all items are delivered in perfect condition — without breakages or shortages — while representing the BUCO brand professionally on the road and at every delivery point.
This is a physically demanding, responsibility-driven role that requires a valid Code 10 licence, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to manage vehicle operations and customer interactions with professionalism.
Key Responsibilities of a Driver
Deliveries & Customer Service
- Deliver goods to BUCO clients safely, promptly, and efficiently.
- Ensure all delivered items match the quantities and specifications on the delivery note.
- Provide professional, courteous service to customers at every delivery point.
- Collect COD (cash on delivery) monies and ensure correct handling and accountability.
- Obtain authorised signatures on delivery notes for every completed delivery.
Vehicle Loading & Cargo Management
- Supervise and assist with the loading of the vehicle before each delivery run.
- Ensure the vehicle is neatly and safely packed to prevent movement, damage, or breakage during transit.
- Verify that the correct quantities and items are loaded against the delivery documentation before departure.
- Offload goods at delivery points carefully and in accordance with company procedures.
Damage & Breakage Prevention
- Take full responsibility for the condition of goods from loading through to delivery.
- Use correct packing, strapping, and securing techniques to protect building materials in transit.
- Report any pre-existing damage to goods before loading to avoid accountability disputes.
- Minimise product losses, breakages, and shortages on every delivery run.
Vehicle Inspections & Maintenance
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection checks before and after every shift.
- Report all defects, faults, or mechanical concerns to the supervisor or fleet manager immediately.
- Maintain the vehicle in a clean, roadworthy, and well-presented condition at all times.
- Actively contribute to reducing vehicle operating costs through responsible driving behaviour and timely defect reporting.
Documentation & Administration
- Ensure all delivery notes are correctly completed, signed, and returned to the branch after every run.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, collections, and COD transactions.
- Comply with all fleet administration requirements including trip sheets and fuel logs.

Minimum Requirements – Driver
To be considered for this Driver position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (NSC) — minimum requirement
Licence Requirements:
- Code 10 (Heavy Vehicle) licence — for vehicles 3501–9000 kg
- Code 8 (Light Vehicle) licence — minimum for lighter vehicle operations
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) — advantageous
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of relevant driving experience in a delivery or logistics environment
Skills & Competencies:
- Knowledge of road traffic regulations and safe driving practices
- Ability to supervise and assist with loading and offloading
- Strong sense of responsibility and accountability for vehicle and cargo
- Basic numeracy skills for verifying quantities and handling COD collections
- Reliable, punctual, and professional in all customer interactions
Legal Requirements:
- Valid South African ID Document
- Clean or acceptable traffic offence record
